Finding the perfect combination of spices when cooking can be challenging. Which flavors blend well together? Will flavors be overpowering? With so many things to consider, it would be helpful to take some of the guesswork out of cooking. Thanks to Robert and Autumn of Calicutts Spice Co., this task just became easier.
Located in Lemoyne, PA, Calicutts handcrafts 20 different spice blends, ranging from spicy and sweet to earthy and tart. Small batches of freshly sourced, toasted, and ground spices communicate the passion Robert and Autumn have for their craft.
An unusual pairing, Robert and Autumn are a son-in-law/mother-in-law duo. “Not many folks can say they run a business with their mother in-law, and enjoy doing so!” says Robert. Fortunately—as consumers—we can reap the rewards from this unusual but successful partnership.
Freshly ground and blended spices are created at the Calicutts shop each week. Combinations such as Cardamom Coffee, Chinese Five-Spice, and Southwest Taco allow customers to experience enchanting flavors from all over the world. Individual spices are responsibly sourced from partner farmers using traditional growing methods. The raw, whole spices are gently roasted, cooled, ground, and immediately hand-blended.
If you are searching for ways to incorporate Calicutts spice blends into your menus, their website has a variety of ideas. Check out recipes like Baked Sweet Potato Fries (incorporating the Vermont Maple blend); a main course of Cocoa & Ancho Rubbed Chops (with the Cocoa & Ancho blend); and wrap things up with Spiced Apple Crisp (using the Indian Garam Masala blend) for dessert. Meal planning has never been easier or more delicious!
